The illustrated project was the initial submission by the developer for Restore NY grant appication which involved the historic renovation of the Sage Block building (former offices of William Henry Smith, a renowned Cornell University trained architect in the 1800’s) and the creation of a new building next door “Harold’s Square.” The renovation of the Sage Block building entails a sensitive historic restoration of the interior architecture and the creation of new apartment units. In the process, this historic gem will become code compliant. The construction plan will not impact the existing vibrant first floor retail / restaurant space. Also in the works is the addition of an upper level penthouse to maximize the development potential of the site. Next to and potentially connected to the historic building will be a new five story mixed-use building comprised of ground floor retail and upper level apartment units.
